Cleaning a barbecue grill can be very demanding and decisive for the service life of a product - but this is not the case with a stainless steel barbecue grill!
A decisive advantage of stainless steel barbecue accessories is the low-maintenance handling and easy cleaning of a stainless steel barbecue grill.
Are there any things to bear in mind when using stainless steel?
Generally speaking, stainless steel is very easy to clean compared to chrome-plated grill grates. While a small scratch will immediately cause a chrome-plated grill grate to rust, scratches will not damage a stainless steel grill grate at all! The most important thing when cleaning a stainless steel barbecue grill is to only use stainless steel or brass barbecue brushes and sponges! If, for example, steel wool is used for cleaning, small pieces of steel will settle all over the grill grate and start to rust.
Burn-in stainless steel grill grates?
The stainless steel grill grate does not need to be baked like a hotplate. However, it makes sense not to simply start grilling but to take a few things into account beforehand. When using the grill grate for the first time, simply heat it up slowly to the highest level. This burns off production residues and acclimatises the material to these temperatures.
This can result in a darker colour developing on the grill grate or grill plate, similar to the patina on a hotplate. The cleaning of stainless steel parts is explained very well in this video.
The surface of the stainless steel, which is somewhat rougher at the beginning, becomes finer with each grilling process and the meat sticks less. If the new grill rack or grill plate is heated up directly and a grill sausage is placed on it, it can burn.
Burning stainless steel is therefore not a must!
My grill grate has become discoloured, how can I make it shiny again?
Every material discolours at the high temperatures that occur when grilling. There is no stainless steel grill grate that does not develop a dark colour.
Cast iron grill grates also change colour at high temperatures. With cast iron grates, however, discolouration is less noticeable due to the already black colour and patina, but this also means that dirt on a cast iron grate is often overlooked.
1 work step before grilling saves you a lot of cleaning work
Brushing with oil also prevents meat or vegetables from burning. This little inconspicuous insider tip has a huge impact on the barbecue experience and makes barbecuing a lot more fun. Is thorough cleaning even necessary after every barbecue? The answer to this question is a resounding NO. Of course, the grill grate will look shinier and more attractive in the long run if it is meticulously cleaned after every barbecue. However, the grilling behaviour does not change and it is sufficient to brush off the coarse dirt briefly.
On the other hand, chrome-plated grill grates or grates made of cast iron must be cleaned after every barbecue, as the food residues attack the materials. This is not a problem with stainless steel!
What is the best and quickest way to clean my stainless steel grill grate?
We also sell the barbecue grill scraper separately on Amazon.
Cleaning other stainless steel grill grates and grill accessories with a stainless steel wool brush is very simple and quick. A standard brush is used to scrub along the grill grate to remove the dirt.
No more cleaning is required for a stainless steel grill grate - simply brush it briefly with a stainless steel grill brush is all it takes!
Can I clean my grill rack in the dishwasher?
The best programme for cleaning in the dishwasher is the energy-saving programme. Firstly, your washing-up liquid is very good at removing the grease that always forms when grilling. Secondly, the long rinsing time on the energy-saving programme means that burnt-on food on the grill rack can swell up very well. The dirt can then be easily brushed off and cleaned with a stainless steel wool and a kitchen sponge.
If you don't have a dishwasher, we recommend simply soaking the grill rack in hot water with washing-up liquid overnight.
Does Grillrost.com have any tips for cleaning?
Of course, you can also do this yourself - with a standard stainless steel wool and washing-up liquid.
